HAIR CLIPS!! Okay, not going to lie, I love the trend. Loved it the second I saw them online at different retailers. John — he goes “what, are you 5?!” LOL. That’s why he works in medicine and I run a beauty/style blog though, I guess. One thing I notice with “trends” is that a lot of people take time to jump on board — I saw this big time with the cadet cap trend. My mom and sister gave me the HARDEST time about wearing them a couple of years ago and 6-8 months later they were asking to borrow mine! I can see where the hair clip trend may be similar since it can be seen as ‘childish’ – but trust me, it’s a trend worth trying. I love it because it keeps the hair out of my face! I wear them on days when I’m just running errands simply because I enjoy not having to push hair out of my face or to tuck away the short baby hairs I got from post-pregnancy with Luke!
I’ve done some extensive internet browsing and tried to pull together a round up of the best hair clips / hair barrettes I can find! The pearl embellished hair clips are the most popular – and honestly I think they are most appealing! They don’t look as childish and they go well with sweet, summery outfits.
HAIR CLIPS I LOVE
TIPS FOR HAIR CLIPS
TIP #1: You can wear your hair curly or straight – doesn’t matter! I think they look amazing pinned into sleek straight hair and also in voluminous, curly hair. I tend to wear my hair curly 80% of the time however. Typically when I’m in a hurry I just touch up my curls with THIS CURLING IRON & tease the crown of my head. And then I spray my favorite shine & texture spray to lock in the extra volume! Being pregnant, my face is much fuller and I like to have good volume on the top of my head and I love how the clips help keep the hair volume in tact, ya know?! [PS. I always use THIS memory mist before I curl my hair!]
TIP #2: There are no rules. The clips don’t have to be in any certain spot. It’s not like when we were kids and we wanted them symmetrical on each side, lol! You can clip on in on one side only or even clip in 3 in one side – it doesn’t have to be perfect! Use them to pin up loose baby hairs or hide your bangs!
TIP #3: Texture spray & hair spray [my fave for this] will be your friend when using these clips. So, if you have hair like mine – clips may slide out easily. My hair has always been very smooth & soft — which sounds great until you try to put a braid in or a clip even. Spraying the clip with some hair spray or just spraying the hair with some texture or hair spray first will help give the clip something to grab onto & get a good grip on. These clips are essential barrettes – so they aren’t crazy strong or anything. My hair is also very heavy so I like to make sure theres something to have as a grip! [And you can always wipe them down with a baby wipe or water wipe if they collect too much product – I’d recommend not letting them sit in water at all though.]
TIP #4: Mix & Match. I like using different styles of clips mixed together for a funky look. Clips can be like earrings or a necklace – they can be the statement piece if you really want them to! So wear a cute tee & ripped jeans and then a fun hair style with clips to really amp up the look!
Okay that about wraps it up – let me know if you are loving the hair clip trend in the comments!!

I LOVE the trend but I’m still hesitant about it because I feel like I’d wear them once or twice and then forget about them just like my earrings, necklaces and bracelets. I forget a lot about this kind of stuff, unfortunately, but I’ll think about it.
