DESK REVAMP
You all may remember last spring when we bought this house, one of the first rooms I decorated was my home office (see post here). I spend a lot of time in my office since I work from home and it is really important to me to have a neat, clean [& cute] space to work. I really loved it but then once I got pregnant and very uncomfortable I found myself working on my laptop from my bedroom & living room where I could be more comfortable! Well the bad part of doing that meant that I was leaving all of my contracts, files, and other important documents in our breakfast nook area… and scattered everywhere else around the house, eek. :/ I can’t tell you how disorganized I became while pregnant – I am totally making up for it now though! Anyway, about a month after Luke was born I realized I really needed to get my office back in order so I could keep everything in one place so I decided to start all over! The first thing I did was get rid of my large desk that took up a lot of space & replaced it with a small desk. Next, I put a cute, cozy couch in there so that I would have a comfortable spot to sit and work from my laptop. And right now when I am working and Luke is napping I put his Dock-A-Tot on that couch so he can sleep next to me while I work… Fitzy likes to snooze there too. Also, since I don’t have storage for all of my paperwork & documents anymore, I caved and got a filing cabinet. Now, this was tough because I didn’t want a clunky, metal thing in my office… at all! I just figured it would be a total eye sore! Luckily, my friend blogger friend Katey Snapchatted about this pink filing cabinet (!!) & I had a feeling this may be the answer to my storage prayers & it was!
Anywho, all of this to say I thought I’d share a few ways I spiced up my desk space a little.. and this is geared more to the fashion loving girl!
5 WAYS TO SPICE UP YOUR DESK SPACE
#1. BOOKS
I love using coffee table books all over my house to bring in pops of color, pattern, & to give some height variation. (i.e. I use them to raise my desktop up a bit & to hold vases!) While I love the traditional fashionista’s coffee table books by Chanel, Dior, etc., I absolutely adore the look of THESE books from Nordstrom.
#2. FLOWERS
Okay, I don’t have to say much with this one…you guys know I always keep fresh flowers all over our home. I just like the look of bright flowers – and the smell. But, one way to amp up your desk is to get a funky, fun vase! I actually just got this one from Nordstrom but it looked better in our living room & was too big for my desk. However, I think this one is the perfect size for a desk & makes a fun statement!
#3. CALENDER
Keeping a cute planner or calendar out is a functional, yet fun way to personalize your space. I use my LV agenda mostly for planning and organizing (it stays in my handbag a lot) – but I like to keep a small calendar on my desk at all times. Just something to glance at quickly and see an overview. I use THIS one because it is small and doesn’t take up too much space & it has a simple look to it. Okay – have to add this in since we are taking decor for the fashionista – how cute is this “She’s Always Running Fashionably Late” planner?! (And this is a basic but so cute weekly planner to lie on your desk – not pricy either at $13!)
#4. TRINKET TRAY
You may have noticed the “The World is my Oyster” tray.. I have so many of these little trays around the house but they are all put to good use. I’m always using them to sit jewelry in or just small items that I want to keep separate and easy to grab (i.e. paperclips, earring backs, etc.). Luckily, there are so many cute little ones out that also serve as decor. (PS. These make great gifts – like, for a bride (engaged friend) or a bestie. )
#5. NOT SO BORING DESK SUPPLIES
Thank goodness for all of these brands who have introduced brightly colored, stylish desk supplies. [Maybe we need to give Elle Woods some credit, too!] Gone are the days of black, chunky staplers & manilla folders!! (Sidenote I use THESE folders to organize monthly contracts.) Instead, opt for a marble tape dispenser or a rose gold stapler. I love this acrylic & gold note holder & this matching magazine holder.
Hopefully this gives you a little inspiration or direction if you are looking for a way to brighten up & personalize your work space!
