Embroidered Elephants

TOP: VaVa c/o (ob.sess.ed) | DENIM: Joe’s Jeans | WEDGES: Jessica Simpson | BAG: Star Mela (love this one w/tassels, too!) | SUNGLASSES: Karen Walker | MONOGRAM: Love Always (3XL, 16″ chain) | EARRINGS: Tuckernuck | BRACELETS: David Yurman (+here) | LIPS: #15

Oh my goodness, this top is an absolutely FAVORITE of mine – the neon coral + fringe + embroidered sleeves, it is too perfect! I opted to wear it out to dinner w/denim jeans because it’s been pretty chilly at night here in Cabo.

So here’s a few more details regarding my crazy travels… I missed my 6:45 a.m. flight out of Tulsa to Dallas because my passport has my maiden name on it – I got it right before our honeymoon and I have used it to go out of the country numerous times since we’ve married. It’s never been an issue, but on this particular Monday morning – the airline employee was evidently not in a good mood (even the other employees told me it was bad luck I got her.) She spent so long telling asking “Who’s Emily Gemma then??” that by the time someone else came up to help me, we didn’t have enough time. What made it all worse was that John dropped me off at the airport and he had to go home and drop off Fitz, change, then go to the hospital. Well, I had to wait an hour and a half for him to circle back to pick me up. I dropped him off at work, went home and got my car (+ marriage license), & literally started driving the 4 hours to Dallas. I pulled into the DFW airport 3 minutes before the cut off to take luggage but they wouldn’t take my luggage! The guys at the valet service literally ran my luggage across the airport for me and helped me prove I was there in time and a supervisor ended up (reluctantly) letting me check-in after hearing that I had indeed made it an hour before the cut off. I was running (in wedges) through the airport/TSA and once I got to my gate – they told me it was going to be delayed for a bit because an attendant was late. By this point, I was starving since I planned on grabbing food at the Tulsa airport and didn’t get to, my phone battery was dead – because I used the GPS to guide me to Dallas and track my ETA & my charger was packed in the suitcase in the back and I literally had no time to stop and dig it out. So, I had a few minutes to grab a Diet Mountain Dew & breakfast bar and charge my phone. As soon as I got on the plane I was out like a lightbulb. It was a crazy day but totally worth it all – I forgot just how incredible Cabo is.. everything here is so picturesque and colorful.

  1. OMG what a hassle! So sorry about your experience! I should probably change my passport too from my maiden name..whoops! Why can't they just accept a marriage license, right?! I love this look on you, so adorable! I give you credit for walking on that uneven pathway in wedges 🙂

  4. Hi Emily, Love this outfit. Hope you are enjoying Mexico. I am headed down with a few girlfriends in July and I can't wait. Two questions for you, the link doesn't seem to be working for the top and what kind of bra do you wear with these off the shoulder tops. Would love some suggestions!

  5. Ah you are so cute I love this outfit!! Those elephants are too cute…I am loving the style of that top too. Glad you made it ok…sounds like an extremely ROUGH day. Have fun in Mexico!!!

  6. You are beautiful, Emily! I'm so glad you finally made it after all that craziness! I have a canon rebel t3i, but was wondering what kind of lens I should upgrade to? For your outfit posts in Cabo do you use a 50mm f1.2 or f1.4? Your pictures are beautiful! I'm going to Cabo for the first time this summer and can't wait!!

  7. Hi Anna! You are going to have the time of your life – I will be envying you in July! This top is actually on pre-order – I am not sure why but when you click the link it won't direct you to the exact top anymore — so you have to type "VAVA" in the Search box at the top right of the blog and it will show up after that! I'd recommend pre-ordering because this top will probably sell out again!
