Last week I shared my favorite skin care products with you like, cleanser, moisturizer, eyelash serum, etc. This week I wanted to share a few tools that are essential to my daily skincare routine. I’ve teamed up with Sephora to share 3 tools that are game changers in skincare – while they are running the ‘Great Cleanse’ campaign. If you shop at Sephora at all, you’ve probably seen the pink circular tool (Foreo ‘Luna’) at the entrance and maybe even touched the bristles?! Ha! I have more than once -and one time John was with me and he did, too! It is definitely an eye catcher! Anyway, I’ll give you the low down on this product as well as the Clarisonic ‘Smart Profile‘ Brush & the Clinique Cleansing Brush.

Before I begin, I have to say to those who are new to my blog, I have always struggled with acne & bad skin in general. My skin is/was crazy oily (the Clarisonic has improved that dramatically). As far as acne goes, in college, I got cysts in my cheeks (awful!!!) and I picked at them leaving my cheeks scarred and not good! I’ve tried chemical peels & microdermabrasion but those did not help! Finally, with a combination of products + a  special treatment (I’ll be sharing next month!), my skin is finally starting to improve. Of course, I still get a pimple from time to time – especially when I travel, but overall I’ve seen improvement.

I’ll jump right in with my favorite out of these 3 products, the Clarisonic Smart Profile. I do own the Clarisonic Mia – which is a wonderful tool, yet the Smart Profile just feels more powerful & on top of that  has a ‘Turbo’ setting. The Mia gets the skin 5x cleaner than your hands, whereas the Smart Profile gets the skin 11x cleaner.  One perk of having the Smart Profile is that it comes with a body brush, as well as a stand to leave in your shower. Additionally, you can purchase the Pedi brush separately and it fits the tool, too, so you can use the Smart Profile literally from head to toe! 🙂 Overall, the Smart Profile is much more ‘fancy’ all around, but holds its value in the way it cleans & exfoliates skin all over! This tool I use 4-5x per week – I can’t use it 2x per day.

Next up is the Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing brush. This tool is much much much more basic & simple, but it definitely has a place in almost anyones skin care routine. Unlike the Clarisonic, it simply just vibrates. This brush would be good for someone who has good, low maintenance skin but wants to keep it extra clean. Personally, I could use this 2x a day and it wouldn’t dry out my skin at all like the Clarisonic. It is good for removing makeup & getting your skin extra clean – as opposed to wanting to keep your skin exfoliated. One thing I loved about the Clinique brush was the firmer, harsher green bristles at the tip of the brush – those are great for cleaning stubborn pores around the nose area!

Finally, is the LUNA Mini by Foreo. Honestly, I was skeptical of this little thing. Essentially it is a silicone tool with little pulsating touch points that unclog pores & remove dirt/makeup. Personally, I would not use this as a makeup removing technique, but I definitely recommend it for unclogging pores/blackheads/etc. The front side is for every type of skin, where as the back side is good for oily skin & the T-Zone area. When I use it, I focus on my nose, cheeks, forehead, & chin. This tool can be used nightly without drying out your skin which is a perk! This tool may not clean as deeply as the Clarisonic or the Clinique Brush, which is good for some people because it won’t cause that initial purging / or won’t irritate those with sensitive skin.

I know this is kind of lengthy, but I hope it helps those of you looking to amp up your skincare routine! Make sure to check out all of the cleansers & products that are a part of Sephora’s ‘Great Cleanse’ Campaign.

  1. Emily,

I've battled acne not only on my face, but my back and chest even into my mid-20s. I recently found a super cheap face wash that has been a major game changer. Try the tea tree oil face wash from Trader Joe's. It's basically just a mix of castile soap and essential oils. I know it sounds crazy, but just try it. I swear you'll see a major difference.

  2. this is very helpful. i am fortunate enough to not have too many skin issues but i've been a little unsure on what to do to generally cleanse and look fresh 🙂 thanks for the post! xo

  3. It is so refreshing to hear a blogger being honest about their skin, and we actually have the exact same skin issues! I have very oily skin and in college I got cysts on my cheeks too (so painful) and now I am left with scars that remind me everyday of the terrible experience I went through. I will say, my Clarisonic has helped dramatically and I just have the mia. I will definitely have to try some of the products you use because your skin looks beautiful! Ever since I started following your blog I have always admired your clear skin, keep up the good work because it looks beautiful!

  4. Take this from a medical doctor. Do not use a tool like clarisonic on your face. It is a gimmick
You need a skin regimen that will clean your skin and restore proper PH.
    Do NOT use these tools.
Call/ email a good lab and get the right serums etc.
Also most of skin care is hype, packaging and models.
call 416.787.2465 and get a professional lab to help you.
This is not a sales pitch for any product,

  5. I am addicted to my Clarisonic and it really changed my face for the better. Thanks for the info on the Smart Profile, next 20% off sale I might be looking for an upgrade since it is 3 in 1!!!!

  6. First of all, I would like to say a big thanks for sharing this article. Deep yet gentle cleansing is the foundation of effective facial care at every age. I just use Sakare's skincare cleaning, it helps to freshen and brighten my skin.
